HALT!!! Who Goes There...

HALT! WHO GOES THERE... A BAD DECISION. Many of you my already be familiar with the acronym: HALT. It is common in therapy, psychology, anger management and addiction recovery... in my experience HALT is a pretty damn accurate acronym for my life: H - Hungry A - Angry L - Lonely T - Tired When I look at bad decisions I make or when I catch myself in a poor mood or I’m not happy, normally at least 1 (if not many) of these are in play. It is almost comical now, because when I feel “off” or “stuck” or basically any emotion that differs from how I want to be feeling, I stop (aka HALT) and run through this list. ▶️ If Hungry, I go eat something. ▶️ If Angry, I calm down, take some breaths, think it through, and chill out. ▶️ If Lonely, I pick up the phone and call a friend or family member and talk about what’s happening. ▶️ If Tired, I get some rest. When I do not correct my mindset, I know that being Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired often gets me in trouble. It leads to me not treating others the way I want, not performing at work the way I want, not staying disciplined the way I want, etc. So the next time you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, pissed up, heated, bummed out, bored, stupid...basically almost anything that doesn’t serve you — take a second and remember HALT. Go through the checklist, identify the issue, and then take the steps toward correction. DON’T MAKE BAD DECISIONS THAT COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED IF YOU HAD JUST PRACTICED ONE SIMPLE ACTION: ▶️ ▶️ ▶️ HALT Hope this helps someone today. If this is new to you and it resonates, or if this is a refresher and you think someone could benefit from it, feel free to tag them or share it. I always leave my page open for anyone to read. Love you all! Have a great Wednesday 7.18.17 - PhillipAndrew
